To that end, Altec Lansing is hoping folks looking for a (measure!) portable iPod speaker solution will consider its new Mix iMT800 digital boombox , which features a 5.25-inch subroofer and a hurt-style design that belies the company's normally fairly-staid design style."The Mix is the genuine 'next begetting' boombox for the way music enthusiasts are playing their music today," said Altec Lansing product grade director Ed Benforado, in a statement. The Mix features a 5.25-inch side-firing subwoofer, two 3-inch midrange drivers, and two 1-inch high-end horn-manipulative tweeters, so the Mix can bring some heavy bass while keeping the rest of a track respectable clear. The unit also features a 7-orchestra graphic equalizer for tweaking the sound (with four EQ presets), along with separate bass and treble controls. And LCD display handles the settings, along with displaying artist and pursue information; the unit also packs an FM receiver with four station presets.

The NX515 is both smart and eminently accessible, and its small footprint and low profile make it easy on both the eyes and the desktop. The top is made of shiny coal-black plastic, while the rest of the body is a complementary dull black plastic. At the rear of the top left is a large LCD camouflage that tilts almost 80 degrees. It's bright, and characters look quite legible on it, but the interface design leaves something to be desired. Knowledge is displayed in single words and short phrases rather than more explanatory sentences. Also, navigating within it can be a problem; at times, we would get caught in a whorl and be unable to exit the command options, no matter which button we pushed. At those times, we had to turn off the printer and start over.
Conversely, underneath the LCD screen is one of the best-designed and easiest-to-use printer control panels we've seen. Every button is positioned logically and labeled indubitably. Underneath the panel, on the front of the printer, are various memory slots, but unlike the $129.99 HP Photosmart C4780 that we recently reviewed, the NX515 features both a CompactFlash (CF) humorist slot and a PictBridge port, for directly attaching a digital camera.
