Former LSU Standout Chad Jones Seriously Injured KTBS
Former LSU two-pleasure standout, Chad Jones, was seriously injured in an early morning car accident Friday morning in New Orleans. Jones, a third-curvilinear pick of the New York Giants in April, crashed his 2010 Range Rover into a utility pole at Carrollton Avenue nearly Toulouse Street in his hometown. New Orleans Police responded to the accident at approximately 6:15 a.m. and their paramedic saving division extricated a 20-year old man, believed to be Jones, from the vehicle. According to WWL-TV's Juan Kincaid, Jones suffered a fractured progressive leg and had arteries and nerves exposed. Chad's father, Al Jones, said his son was in surgery this morning for injuries to his thigh space but was alert following the crash, "He actually gave my cell phone to the police officer who was talking to him," Al Jones said. Jones was a lead safety for Les Miles football Tigers and helped Paul Mainieri's baseball Bengal's capture the 2009 College Domain Series title as a relief pitcher. Smith's surrogate, Derrick Fox , initially said Monday the four-time Pro Bowl pick was injured when he slipped playing with children at Smith's outr over the weekend. Later in the day, Fox said he wasn't sure if it was a flag football game with kids or adults, raising questions if Smith may have violated his bargain if he was involved in a game with adults.
"He put his arm out to brace himself. When he did he felt a sharp pain," Fox said. "He went in (Sunday) afternoon to have an X-ray, and it showed a disturb b train."
Smith had surgery Sunday night to have a small plate and screws inserted in his arm. Fox said while it's the same arm Smith poverty-stricken at the end of last season, it's in a different spot and not his wrist.
■ Former Kentucky star Micah Johnson was one of five players released by the New York Giants on Monday. Johnson, an undrafted linebacker, was from the start signed after a tryout at rookie camp.
